The case between Ripple and the US SEC has undergone the following developments this month.
The United States Securities and Exchange Commission and Ripple are still engaged in a lawsuit. Here are some of the most recent happenings as of today, June 27, 2023.
- The most recent development occurred yesterday when John E. Deaton, the attorney who is defending thousands of XRP investors, disclosed that he received an email that initially worried him.
- It turned out, nevertheless, that there was only one attorney who left the case. Both Deaton and veteran SEC litigator Marc Fagel concurred that this is a non-event.
- Speaking of Fagel, he suggested that a decision would be coming soon a few weeks ago.
- The SEC ultimately released the documents regarding William Hinman’s speech on or around June 13 in response to a court order, which was probably this month’s most significant development.
Stuart Alderoty, the Chief Legal Officer at Ripple, offered his thoughts on the subject, saying:
“Seeing the depth to which the SEC has essentially weaponized the lack of regulatory clarity through enforcement actions since this speech was given – it’s no surprise that we can call bluff on their claims to “just come in and register” as nothing but in bad faith.”
