The Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) is a trending collection of 10,000 Bored Ape NFTs [non-fungible tokens] minted on the Ethereum[erc20] blockchain back in April 2021.
Each of the 10,000 NFTs has different traits and unique characteristics, and presently they are among some of the top-ranked in the NFT marketplaces. Each BAYC NFT gives its holders additional rights to airdrops.
Privileges like access to actual life events and performers; even allow them to monetize their Bored Ape NFT holdings through a copyright license or build their brand around their held NFTs and the privilege of being a member of a swamp club and a bathroom [virtual hangout places].
Founders of the Bored Ape NFT
The BAYC NFTs were created by Yuga Labs LLC, a pioneer in the NFT world.
The people behind it are Greg Solano, Wylic Aronov, No Sass, and Emperor Tomato Ketchup; 4 friends who designed and created the Bored Ape intending to “make some dope apes, test their minting skills, and try to create something funny.”
They cited the term ‘aping in’ and their liking for apes as the reason for choosing an ape as their NFT’s mascot. ‘Aping in’ is a crypto trading phrase that means to buy a currency or NFT, risking a significant sum of money that might have to be abandoned.
Besides turning the Bored Apes into amongst the top NFTs and the most popular Avatars in the crypto enthusiasts’ and celebrities’ social media profiles, the BAYC creators also hold the credit of acquiring the Crypto Punks and MeeBits NFTs. The creation of the Mutant Ape Yacht Club [MAYC] NFTs, the Bored Ape Kennel Club [BAKC] NFTs, and the release of the ApeCoin [APE].
