The company will add such a payment method if it decides that it is necessary for users, the head of Uber said.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in an interview with CNBC that the company was considering buying bitcoin, but abandoned the idea. Uber wants to keep its funds safe and is not speculating, he said.
At the same time, he said that Uber is discussing the possibility of connecting the acceptance of payments in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. According to Khosrowashi, if there is a benefit for the company, drivers, and users, this payment method can be added.
Khosrowashi also clarified that Uber is not going to accept cryptocurrency just for the sake of advertising.
In March 2021, Elon Musk announced the start of sales of Tesla cars for bitcoins, and on May 10 he announced that in 2022 SpaceX will launch a Doge-1 satellite to the Moon under a contract paid for by the Dogecoin cryptocurrency. In the same month, Tesla stopped accepting bitcoins due to their unenvironmental nature.
In January 2022, Tesla allowed Dogecoin to buy some goods in its store – you can take a cyber whistle, an electric quad bike, and more.
