Sun celebrated the court’s decision on social media, noting that the lawsuit was filed after the media group published a defamatory article on March 11, 2022. This article echoed unfounded allegations from a piece by The Verge, which had also implied Sun was under investigation by the FBI and IRS. Unlike The Verge, which included a disclaimer, Chongqing Business Media Group failed to do so, leading to Sun’s legal action.
Legal Precedent Set for Blockchain Community
The court’s ruling not only vindicates Justin Sun but also sets a significant legal precedent for the blockchain community. The decision underscores the necessity for media outlets to adhere to professional ethics and ensure the accuracy of their reports. Tron DAO highlighted that the judgment serves as a reminder of the importance of factual integrity in journalism, particularly when reporting on the rapidly evolving blockchain industry.
