The UK Is Set To Buy AI Chips Worth 130M Dollars In The Chase To Purchase Computing Power

The UK plans on spending 130 million dollars to come up with an AI base. According to a recent report, 20% of firms cannot get access to AI power.

The UK is set to build an AI resource centre by the time mid-2024 reaches. There are also reports that the UK government has already started reeling in chips from companies such as Intel and AMD and that the UK Research and Innovation is in the final stages of acquiring 5000 NVIDIA graphic processing units.

It has come to the attention of the organization that the 130$ million procured will not be enough to buy all the chips. As a result, many are speculating that the government officials advocating for the project will ask for more money to enable the project to be realized fully.

The companies in the UK have been struggling to acquire AI resources compared to the USA. There were only 1000 chips at the disposal of the country which were not enough to train AI models. A recommendation of an additional 3000 to meet the requirements was made by a UK panel.

The Reactions To The AI Project

S&P Globals AI report stated that a large number of firms and organizations had not yet been fully prepared for the AI program. The senior research analyst has however said that it is still early and therefore there is enough time. At the same time, however, the major factor that will determine the success of the project will depend on who can carry the workload
